DeepSeek has been a revelation since its release in January of 2025. Its cost-effective services along with its highly customizable nature have made it one of the most amazing Open-Source AI software in the world. To create a chatbot and run it locally, you need to train your DeepSeek model based on your requirements. You can hire an  AI development company to train and optimize AI models in any way you want. Based on how comprehensive the training of your model is, the accuracy will be determined. So, the training needs to be comprehensive in order to build a model that is precise, accurate, and adaptable.

DeepSeek AI Model Training Process

Here is a step-by-step guide on how you can train your own DeepSeek model.

Step 1: Domain Selection

First and foremost, you need to understand what you want from your LLM. For example, if you want your DeepSeek to be trained to provide business analysis insights, you need to train the datasets of your business. Moreover, you will also need data from other businesses to train it in a comprehensive fashion. It will ensure that your DeepSeek can analyze different situations and give insightful feedback based on solid data.

Step 2: Data Collection

You need data to feed your DeepSeek model. For that, you need large sets of data. When self-hosting Deepseek, you can use your already existing data or you can scrape data from the internet. The quality and the size of your dataset will be a determining factor of how accurate the response of your DeepSeek will be. Additionally, you might need Optical Character Recognition (OCR) if you want it to read images. You need to continuously collect and feed data to your LLM in order to keep it up-to-date. Much like humans, AI also needs to keep learning. AI might become obsolete without new datasets.

For example, the AI will be producing responses based on old data which becomes obsolete with time, thus rendering your model prone to errors. The more data you can feed your DeepSeek, the better its training will be. You have to continuously feed your  DeepSeek with updated data. This will ensure that the calculation, decision-making procedure, and everything else will be efficient and based on correct data resulting in better analysis and decision-making. Also, you need to be careful about which type of data you are using.

If you are working with a certain type of data then you have to be consistent with it. Meaning, you can use any format to train your DeepSeek, it can be OCR, PDF, text, or anything else but the format, labeling, data types, and structure need to be the same throughout. For example, we have used JSON format to train our DeepSeek.

Step 3: Fine-tune

To properly fine-tune your DeepSeek, you need to prepare your data and feed it to your model in order to train it properly.

Here is a step-by-step guide to fine-tune your DeepSeek:

Loading Model and Data

After you are done with formatting, you need to load your DeepSeek model and dataset.

We have used the base version of DeepSeek here as you can see in the code. If you are using a different version then you will need to code accordingly.

from transformers import AutoModelForCausalLM, AutoTokenizer

model = AutoModelForCausalLM.from_pretrained("deepseek-ai/deepseek-base")

tokenizer = AutoTokenizer.from_pretrained("deepseek-ai/deepseek-base")

dataset = load_your_data("your_data.json") # Your prepared file

Fine-tune

After loading your model and data, you need to train your DeepSeek with your data.

from transformers import Trainer, TrainingArguments

training_args = TrainingArguments(output_dir="./fine_tuned_model", num_train_epochs=3)

trainer = Trainer(model=model, args=training_args, train_dataset=dataset)

trainer.train()

Based on your domain needs, you can tune parameters. These codes help you with specific needs. For example, num_train_epochs sets how many times DeepSeek will see your dataset. Fewer epochs (1-3) for simple and smaller datasets and more epochs (5-10) for complex sets of data.

Being consistent and thorough with data is of utmost importance. Since every response and analysis will be done based on the data you provide, there is no way around but to be vigilant.

Step 4: Test and Evaluate

After you are done fine-tuning, you need to test and evaluate whether your model is working properly or not. Testing for real-world usage needs to be comprehensive as users might face heavy repercussions due to incorrect responses. You need to calculate the performance metrics, compare results, do error analysis, benchmarking, and document all the results. You need to evaluate the performance based on the responses that your DeepSeek generates. If they are satisfactory then you can proceed to the next stage. However, if they are not satisfactory, then you need to train it further and fine-tune its responses. The training needs to be done properly and (if needed) over and over again for perfection.

Step 5: Deploy

Deployment is the final stage where you will release your DeepSeek for the users or for yourself. You need to monitor and constantly try to make it more accurate and fast. You also need to optimize performance for faster responses. In the meantime, upgrading the architecture is also a good investment. Upgrading the GPU or SIMD6 will make your DeepSeek faster and more efficient. Computational power is the base of any high-performing AI. Higher specs can ensure better performance from your LLM. Moreover, without high specifications, you cannot deploy or train the latest versions of an LLM such as DeepSeek.

It is mandatory to be vigilant when deploying your own DeepSeek as incorrect responses can hinder your progress or cause you to lose money.
